The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to purchase or use Lamisil Cream (terbinafine) for the treatment of ringworm, a common fungal infection affecting the groin area, according to FDA documents.

Lamisil Cream contains the allylamine antibacterial agent terbinafine, which has been available on prescription in the U. S. since 1998 and is the first FDA-approved topical antifungal medication approved for treatment of fungal infections of the groin area. Terbinafine is an allylamine antibacterial drug and is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, nails, hair and scalp, as well as fungal infections of the skin and nails.

The FDA has received multiple consumer complaints regarding the product, including concerns over the potentially dangerous interaction of terbinafine with the topical antifungal drug Lamisil Cream. The FDA has further indicated that the potential for terbinafine to cause systemic side effects is low. The FDA has not yet given a final decision on the safety of terbinafine, according to the FDA.

The F. D. A. has expressed its support for Lamisil Cream and has requested that the FDA notify consumers of the negative consequences of purchasing or using this product. Consumers can contact us at 1-800-FDA-1088 or by emailing.
